The World Education Games 02/10/2012
Dear parents, All of our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders have been signed up for “ The World Education Games” - the exciting event for all schools and students around the world. It runs from the 6th to the 8th of March, involving 5.5million students from over 200 countries and territories. This is the global challenge to get students excited about learning, and to give the top students in each school an opportunity to see how they measure up against the best. WHAT DO STUDENTS DO? Students are given their own personal online games center, from which they can participate in all 3 events from school and home. Yesterday your child had brought home a yellow card with his/her unique username and password. Please encourage and help your child to go to www.worldeducationgames.com and start practicing math and spelling ( there are separate tubs in the upper left corner of the screen). Students are matched in real time with up to 3 other students of similar age and ability in exciting live challenges. For Math and Spelling each challenge lasts 1 minute. Students earn points for correct answers, with their personal tally growing as they complete the challenges. WHAT HAPPENS IN EACH MATH AND SPELLING EVENT? On both World Spelling Day, MARCH 6th and World Maths Day, MARCH 7th, students progress through 5 levels of difficulty in arithmetic and mental computation, and earn 1 point for every correct answer. Prizes will be awarded to the top students in each age category, ages 4-7, ages 8-10, ages 11-13 and ages 14-18. Global Talent Search Nomination 10/11/2010
We are proud to announce that our school has become a part of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth’s program called Global Talent Search. This program is open to students in grades 2-8 who show great academic promise based on test scores and achievement in school. It is the most comprehensive program for academically advanced students worldwide. The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth extends our school’s commitment to helping our academically talented students by providing a different type of academic assessment, plus special courses for qualifying students. Our school has nominated 5 students in second grade and 6 students in third grade. These kids will receive a package with their name on it. Parents should read and take all further actions. We wish our nominees the best of luck on their special tests that asses their math and verbal/reading talents! Eleonora Nayberg Principal ![]() Great News! Our school was approved by Stanford University and now all students attending RAIS can use EPGY Open Enrollment Program.(The Education Program for Gifted Youth) What is EPGY Open Enrollment? EPGY is Stanford University's Education Program for Gifted Youth. EPGY Open Enrollment makes K-7 EPGY on-line courses available to students who do not have access to them in their schools and who opt not to apply for the traditional tutor-supported EPGY distance-learning courses. The curriculum has been developed in-house at Stanford University, and a few aspects of the curriculum are unique and quite interesting. The program is self-paced and allows fairly rapid progression through the materials. Through Open Enrollment, students can take the K-7 Mathematics and Language Arts and Writing courses. In their coursework, students are supported by their parents, who have access to monitoring capabilities, an array of self-support tools, as well as a School Support Associate(Lana Holmes), a local volunteer who receives training in the course software from EPGY staff and acts as a liaison with EPGY. More information on the EPGY Open Enrollment Option can be found at: http://epgy.stanford.edu/district/info.html What are the differences between the EPGY Open Enrollment Option and the traditional EPGY courses?
