Gymnastics and Dancing! Drums and Piano! Singing in Russian and English! Hard to imagine a performing skill which was missed during our annual Talent Show!

We couldn't be more proud to tell you how talented the kids are! The variety of performances and costumes was amazing.

Teachers' imagination and patience as well as parents' creativity and participation helped to make this show a great success: almost 50 acts in 2 hours!

As we wrote before, our 3rd and 4th graders participated in Adventures in Music program organized by San Francisco Symphony. And we have great news to share. Not only the kids enjoyed the series of concerts with leading performers, they also had a chance to express their artistic impressions of music and participate in San Francisco Symphony's Visual Arts Project. The artwork was reviewed by judges from San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Art Institute: RAIS was chosen among 3 winner schools , and 7 RAIS students among finalists, whose work they felt best represented the general artistic experience of the Concert for Kids program. The artworks of these students will be on display at the San Francisco Public Library, Main Branch Children's Center in March and April of 2013. Congratulations!

To celebrate Earth Day in the heart of San Francisco, the “Greenest City in North America”, our after-school Art class students have just completed an art project.

Their artworks will be displayed on the walls of an interactive maze built by MatterOfTrust.org on April 22nd.

This free eco event will be held at Civic Center Plaza on Sunday, April 22nd, 10am to 6pm, and will be filled with lots of fun, live music, workshops and art.

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday (and, of course, for fun) we will have PAJAMA DAY on FRIDAY, MARCH 2nd .

Dr. Seuss is famous for writing children’s books such as “Cat in the Hat” and “ Horton Hears a Who”.
No uniform is expected on this day. Instead, your child can wear a pajama to school – think of proper underclothes! – and bring a favorite stuffed animal!

Also, 1st ,2nd and 3rd graders can bring their own Dr.Seuss’ book or any other favorite book ( in English or Russian) to school to read aloud in class.

The World Education Games

Boys and girls from all grades at RAIS participated in this exciting event for students around the world.
It ran March 6-8, 2012, involving 5.5million students from over 200 countries and territories.

This is a global challenge to get students excited about learning, and to give the top students in each school an opportunity to see how they measure up against the best. Our students were signed up and practiced online, and on the day of the event (Math and Spelling) they logged on the website to be matched up to 3 other students of similar age and ability in exciting live challenges.

Not every school can praise itself for having a real theatrical production. RAIS is proud to keep the tradition of organizing annual Winter Shows to start off holiday celebrations. Winter songs, poetry, dance, lots of costumes - our children amazed us with plenty of talents unwrapped at this party! Every kid had a role or two in the performance based on a variety of well-known fairy tales - from Alice in Wonderland to Aladdin to Pushkin's poems to traditional Russian folk tales, - and everyone was wearing a costume. A lot was done for the preparation for this year's show: from the scenario sophistication to the costumes variety to the wall decorations. At the end all the kids had a blast when Santa came and brought the presents! Happy Holidays from Russian American International School!

Adventures in Music. Have you ever seen a carbon fiber black cello? Had a chance to play with a violin bow and see how many horse tail hairs it's made of? Heard and memorized such terms as "glissando", "tremolo" and "piccicato"? Well, our 3rd and 4th graders had a chance to do all of this in their "Adventures in Music". This time we went to R.L. Stevenson school and joined our friends there to hear to SF Symphony string quartet play a variety of music for us. We enjoyed pieces from jazz to tango to classics, even hip-hop played on a violin. The musicians also played their own pieces to us deliciously called "Danish dessert" and "Joe Mocca". Can't wait for these adventures to continue!

In December our 3rd and 4th graders had a privilege to visit San Francisco Symphony for a tour and our own private concert! Our school was chosen to participate in an exceptional program called Adventures in Music hosted by the San Francisco Symphony. Adventures in Music (AIM) is a sequential music education program designed specifically for San Francisco's elementary schools with a goal of introducing kids to classical music. It integrates live music performances and related music-learning experiences with classroom curriculum. The entire program - taught by Ms. Dometrus to our 3rd and 4th graders throughout the year - culminated in a field trip to the Davies Symphony Hall for a private concert. We had a chance to hear about instruments and orchestra, learn each instrument's name and hear it playing a solo, meet the conductor and be part of a wonderful music making experience in one of the best symphony halls.

I am proud to let you know that Russian-American International School has been selected for the 2011 San Francisco Award in the Elementary Schools category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2011 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.

I'm sure that our selection as a 2011 Award Winner is a reflection of the hard work of not only the school staff, but of people like you that have supported our business and contributed to the subsequent success of our school. Congratulations to all of us!
