![]() To celebrate its 40th Anniversary, the Exploratorium offers the following electrifying, evanescent, and enlightening series of events. Note admission is free for the public on the November 4 as well as on the weekend of November 7 and 8. The schedule of events is as follows: - November 5: Exploratorium After Dark—Electrifying Science with Dr. MegaVolt - November 7: Cutting Ice into One with a Motorcycle "Imagine a big block of ice suspended from the ceiling of the Exploratorium. Now imagine a wire wrapped around the middle of that ice block from which is hung a motorcycle. Chill out with other skeptics and watch the motorcycle fall to the floor as the wire very slowly cuts through the ice, but bear witness—the ice block remains one whole piece! Check out this stranger-than-friction phenomenon for yourself at the Exploratorium’s Cutting Ice into One, on Saturday, November 7, 2009, during a free weekend as we continue celebrating our 40th anniversary" - November 7 & 8: Tom Noddy’s Bubble Magic "Tom Noddy blows bubbles inside of bubbles. Smoke bubbles. Inside-out bubbles. Caterpillar bubbles. Yin-yang bubbles. And, as part of the Exploratorium’s 40th Anniversary celebration, Noddy will present Bubble Magic at three shows daily (times TBA). Thirty-seven years ago, Noddy bought some dime-store bubbles as a source of cheap entertainment. He has since become a bubble troubadour, traveling around the world to learn all there is to know about the art and science of blowing bubbles, and talking to physicists, mathematicians, chemists, biologists, architects, magicians, and kids during his travels." - November 8: Iron Science Teacher "Cheer on the competitors in this zany science cook-off, where teachers compete before a live audience for the revered title, "Iron Science Teacher." In recognition of the Exploratorium’s 40th birthday, this special edition of our popular show features a secret ingredient closely related to birthdays!" - November 14: Operate! - November 15: Something Incredibly Wonderful Happens: Frank Oppenheimer and the World He Made Up - A Conversation with Author K.C. Cole - November 21: Physics of Toys "Hungry for a scientific snack? In celebration of the Exploratorium's 40th birthday, the Physics of Toys team serves up delectable "snacks," or hands-on activities, that let you build miniature museum exhibits. Using everyday materials, these snacks for your mind reveal the scientific wonders underlying our exhibits. All materials provided; take what you make home! For ages 6 and up."
