This program is open to students in grades 2-8 who show great academic promise based on test scores and achievement in school. It is the most comprehensive program for academically advanced students worldwide.

Since its founding in 1979, The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth ( CTY ) has identified and develop the talents of hundreds of thousands of the brightest young people in the U.S. and worldwide.

Stanford EPGY(Education Program for Gifted Youth) Open Enrollment Program

Picture
Our school was approved by Stanford University and now all students attending RAIS can useEPGY Open Enrollment Program.(The Education Program for Gifted Youth)

What is EPGY Open Enrollment?
EPGY is Stanford University's Education Program for Gifted Youth.  EPGY Open Enrollment makes K-7 EPGY on-line courses available to students who do not have access to them in their schools and who opt not to apply for the traditional tutor-supported EPGY distance-learning courses.  The curriculum has been developed in-house at Stanford University, and a few aspects of the curriculum are unique and quite interesting. The program is self-paced and allows fairly rapid progression through the materials. Through Open Enrollment, students can take the K-7 Mathematics and Language Arts and Writing courses.
In their coursework, students are supported by their parents, who have access to monitoring capabilities, an array of self-support tools, as well as a School Support Associate(Lana Holmes), a local volunteer who receives training in the course software from EPGY staff and acts as a liaison with EPGY.

More information on the EPGY Open Enrollment Option can be found at:
http://epgy.stanford.edu/district/info.html

What are the differences between the EPGY Open Enrollment Option and the traditionalEPGY courses?
  • Cost:  The biggest advantage of the EPGY Open Enrollment Option is the cost. You get access to the entire K-7 Math and Language Arts curriculum for one year (June1,2010-May 31,2011) for $135. That's a substantial savings over the cost of the traditional tutor-supported EPGY courses which run about $495 per quarter.
  • Courses Offered: K-7 Math & Language Arts and Writing
  • Options: Kids can change grades
  • Transcript:  You do not receive a Stanford EPGY transcript through the EPGY Open Enrollment Option.

Features of EPGY Courses:
  • Accelerated student learning through a highly individualized, self-paced educational experience that uses a combination of multimedia instruction and automated assessment of student progress
  • Differentiated course content that is appropriate for varying levels of student achievement, ensuring that all students remain fully engaged during the learning process
  • Instructional software that improves student understanding and motivation, and maximizes student potential and academic achievement
*Program has 1 minute lectures and exercises supported with voice explaining each topic

Can I use the software on multiple computers?
The curriculum runs on a web browser, so you should be able to access it from any computer that has internet access, but you will need to "certify" each computer to make sure it runs.
